Becoming a staff Member for the Summer There are several ways you can become a staff member of the Central Atlantic Leisure Ministry Team.
BSM Summer Missionary: This is for college students. There are two ways to do this. First, several State Conventions in the Southern Baptist Convention pickup this ministry and commission college students in their state convention to come to Ocean City. You need to contact the BSM Director at your campus and ask him or her if your state is sending summer missionaries to Ocean City, Maryland or you can call the Baptist State Convention and ask them. Second, you can call the North American Mission Board (their web page is linked to this web page) and ask them how you can be chosen to come. These students will serve 10 weeks of the summer.
Sojourner: This is for high school students who have completed their junior or senior year in high school. They can apply through the North American Mission Board (Find link in this web page). These students can serve 8 to 10 weeks of their summer in Ocean City.
Mission Service Corps Volunteer: This for any persons willing to raise their own support and who will give up their summer to come to Ocean City and work with CALM. Again you would need to apply through the North American Mission Board or give Lynn Davis a call to explain your circumstance to her.
Youth or Adult Mission Team: CALM takes between 15 and 25 mission teams each summer. Reservations are being taken now for the summer of 2008. These teams range in size from 4 to 40. Church leaders need to call or e-mail Lynn Davis for information. These teams are expected to serve one week, Saturday through Friday, during the summer months.
Ministry Expectations: For Staff: CALM Staff work long hours and carry a multitude of responsibilities. Each staff member will be responsible for a campground where they will coordinate "Surf and Sand Clubs", worship services, and family nights. They will also direct a number of other ministries which include but are not limited to: Parent's Night Out, beach volleyball, ministries to lifeguards, Internationals, fishermen, and surfers, and a number of other ministries to a resort community.
For Mission Teams: Mission teams lead "Surf and Sand Clubs" Monday through Friday mornings. Lynn Davis writes and provides the curriculum, CALM provides the crafts, refreshments, and recreational supplies. Mission Teams will also lead Parents Night out on Monday nights. They will plan and direct Family nights in one or two campgrounds on Wednesday nights. Teams will be involved in a variety of afternoon ministries which are different each day. Teams are asked to attend and when possible participate in Sunday worship services at local Baptist Churches. The week a mission team is here is busy but very rewarding. For more details please contact Lynn Davis. We are recruiting teams for this Summer 2008 right now. Contact CALM as soon as possible.
CALM Provides: For Ministry Staff: Calm provides housing and meals for Staff. Male staff will share a room in the Ocean City Baptist Retreat Center. Female staff will live at Pastor and Mrs. Davis' home. Transportation to ministries is usually provided by the Mission Teams. When necessary CALM will provide the transportation.
For Mission Teams: There is a $225 fee per person coming to CALM. CALM will provide housing in the Ocean City Baptist Retreat Center. The Retreat Center is located one block from the Atlantic Ocean in Downtown Ocean City. The Retreat Center is dormitory style with boys living on one floor and girls on another floor. CALM also provides breakfast and lunch each day for the teams. Evening meals are the responsibility of the teams. Each team member will receive one ministry shirt, one "slip disk", and a manual. All craft materials, curriculum, recreational materials, and refreshments for the ministries are provided by CALM. Team members will need to bring their own toiletries, sheets, blankets, pillows, and Bibles.
